Editorji

The app presents a personalized news feed using an AI algorithm that curates based on user information
OVERVIEW

The app rewards instant gratification—come, click, watch and leave. Serving both experienced and digitally innocent viewers. Quick news round up of 5, 10 or 15 minute in video, audio or text views, along with the possibility to share. The experience stays consistent across formats of mobile app, website, fire TV app and PWA (progressive web application). I was involved in the designing the UI of the mobile app while keeping in mind good UX practices for both Android and iOS as well as the desktop website.

Iconography

Custom icons were designed for the app using as few elements as possible and coloured in a gradient to follow the editorji identity. The style follows a line of 2px thickness with rounded edges to avoid sharpness and and using as minimal fill as possible.

App Intro

The app starts with a splash screen of animated Editorji logo elements, which shows the idea of curation of a newslist. The initial version of the app was designed for two languages i.e. English and Hindi with the language selectors at the top. The user can choose the language while onboarding. The user is also asked in a single screen about the genre of news they prefer for better curation of newslist. The first fold of the app has the curated newslist driven by an AI and scrolling further suggests different categories of news as per the users choice. The news can be also be read or listened to by switching between the modes.

Curated Newslists

Newslists of multiple genres are created by the AI and the users are shown the videos as per their preferences. The videos are short news and do not exceed a minute. The news can also be read and listened to by toggling between the different modes within the app.

Live Broadcast

News was also live brodcasted during a major news event. During the period, a live button in the footer menu was enabled for users to access the event in one click. During elections, the users can also see the stats below the news feed.

Live Score and Stock Market

Sports score and stock market widgets were designed for the users to keep track of their favourite team or favourite shares. The scores widget are enabled during a sports event only.

Custom Newslists

Users are also allowed to create their own newslists by adding the video news to their list. The newslists can be shared on multiple social media platforms. They can also record their opinions and share in the same newslist as well.

Visual Design

In the first phase, the mobile app was designed for both iOS and Android. The components for both OS were handed to the developers separately
In the second phase of the design, we were asked to design the responsive website for editorji.

The homepage has a large video player, which plays the latest news playlist with the textual news on the left and news playlist on the right.

The menu has various news categories and sub-categories within the category dropdown

The designed website was responsive and opens on the mobile phone as a PWA (progressive web app) as well, for users who doesn’t have the iOS or Android app installed.
